Jean-François Mayence is a law graduate (ULB 1997 and graduated from specialized studies in Maritime and Air Law (ULB 1998).

Legal Affairs Advisor at Belspo (Federal science policy) Since January 1, 1999, he has been mainly responsible for legal support and representation within the framework of European and international scientific programs, in particular space programs and research in Antarctica.

Jean-François Mayence is the author of the text of the belgian space law (2005) and he is the co-author of the text of de la antarctic law (2017).

He is part of the Belgian representation at theESA (European Space Agency), the European Union and UNCOPUOS (United Nations Committee for the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space). In this Committee, questions of a political, technical or legal nature are discussed which reflect the major concerns and the main challenges facing space activities. For example, the dspace debris, orbital congestion, interference between satellite systems, the fair, sustainable and secure use of space resources and the use of space for environmental and human protection purposes.

Jean-François Mayence regularly gives courses and conferences on space law in various Belgian and European universities. He is scientific advisor to theuniversity of Liege and was responsible for a seminar at the KULeuvenfrom 2008 to 2013. He has contributed to some fifteen international academic and scientific publications.
