If Huawei has a hard time convincing in France with its smartphones, the manufacturer has found a very relevant new life as a portable PC manufacturer. Most of its Windows machines are successful and at attractive prices and we recommend them. We are always eager to discover new references. This is precisely what Huawei was able to reveal on Wednesday, June 29.

Huawei MateBook 16S

We start with the small flagship among the two new computers presented, the Huawei MateBook 16S. We are talking about a machine marketed in two configurations, at 1699.99 and 1899.99 euros in France depending on the model of the processor, with a release scheduled for July 12 (pre-orders open on Wednesday June 29).

This is a new version of the S range that we already knew in 13 and 14 inch format, this time with, as its name suggests, a diagonal of 16 inches. The 3:2 format with a definition of 2520 x 1680 pixels should offer a very large display area for this PC equipped with a screen almost borderless.

Inside, there is a 12th generation Intel chip: either an Intel Core i5-12500H or an Intel Core i7-12500H. With a 1.99 kg chassis and with an adjusted cooling circuit, Huawei promises a power level attributed to 54 W to maintain high performance. The chip will be supported by 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 1 TB of SSD storage. Everything will be powered by an 84 Wh battery and a 90 W adapter.

On the connection side, we will find USB 3.2 Gen 1 on two Type-A ports (the classic format), a USB-C port, Thunderbolt 4, an HDMI 2.0 port and a 3.5 mm jack port. The wireless connection will be made with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.

Huawei MateBook D16

The other PC unveiled today also offers a 16-inch format, but with features revised downwards to soften the bill. The Huawei MateBook D16 will also be marketed from July 12, for a more affordable price of 999.99 or 1299.99 euros, again depending on the processor model chosen.

screen borderless thus adopts a more classic format of 16:10 with a definition of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The two chosen Intel chips are identical (Intel Core i5-12500H or Intel Core i7-12500H), but with a lower thermal envelope (40 W) and the Thunderbolt 4 port is swapped for a simple, slower USB-C. The battery goes to 60 Wh, which lightens the PC to 1.7 kg, with a 65 W charger. In detail, we also note that one of the USB Type-A ports goes to a simple USB 2.0 and the storage will be limited to 512 GB.
