Of the youngtimers ? Old cars? Watch out for surprises. This week, Alain Daldem, the man with the camera, presents his very recent acquisition to us and explains the reasons for his choice.
The automobile is sometimes a source of love discord. So when Alain Daldem, cameraman, editor, director, journalist and Swiss army knife from Caradisiac decided to buy a car, things got complicated at home. Because he had set his sights on a Suzuki Ignis. But the funny little car was not to his wife’s taste. Never mind: to preserve the peace of the household, he changes brand, but not nationality, since he ended up deciding on a Honda Jazz Crosstar.
For him, the Jazz responds somewhat to the same philosophy as the Ignis. “They are both reliable, flexible, and well equipped, even if the Jazz is a little more road” slices the man with the camera. But why the hell set his sights on the SUV version of the Jazz, the Crosstar? “A random” advances Alain at first, before admitting: “It’s also because of its black interior. My wife didn’t want a light dashboard and seats”. However, the Crosstar is only available in a dark livery for its interior. Chance and female choices doing things well, he discovered the model he was looking for at his dealership during an open house a few months ago.
But the Hondas, Jazz or not, are not given. And this model, in its high-end finish, is displayed at 27,900 euros. Except that the one that Alain covets has already traveled 13,000 km. How to get a nice discount? “More than 10,000 euros less”. The deal is concluded quickly and the videographer, with his delighted wife, leaves at the wheel of the machine on board which they have already accumulated more than 6,000 km in a few months.
So here they are, owners of a city car. “A city girl?” That has the gift of annoying our man. “It’s actually an old-school compact. A few years ago they were 4m.” Whereas today it is the size of a Renault Clio. And to rail against the one-upmanship in terms of the size of all automotive segments. On the other hand, if he only moderately appreciates this inflation of centimeters, he rather approves that of the on-board equipment and judges that his Jazz is rather well endowed, and super well provided in terms of storage. They certainly do not allow him to set up his lights, his feet and his cameras there, “but the cabin is large and flexible enough for that”.
A car made to last, before going electric
Car for leisure, work, town and country, the Jazz is also economical. “I consume 3.8 l in the city and 5.1 l on the road”, since the hybrid, unlike the thermal, is more frugal on the streets than on the highway. This car not too expensive, practical and not very gluttonous does not therefore suffer from any defect. At least for the moment, and at least in the mind of its owner who intends to keep it for a very long time. “This hybrid, for me, is the last step before the end of the thermal”. What about buying an electric car? Provided that its interior is not too clear and that its design is to the taste of Madame.
