Tokyo: Sarath Kamal, India’s hopeful in table tennis, is out in the third round. He fought hard against Ma Long of China but failed to advance to the third round.
Sarath fell to 7-11,11-8,11-13,4-11. Despite missing the first game, Kamal came back in the second game and posed a formidable challenge to the Chinese player. Sarath also won the third game. But the Chinese player dominated game four and five.
The gold medalist at the Rio Olympics blocked Sharath’s way in the third round. In table tennis doubles, Satviksai Raj-Chirag Shetty will be India’s hope. Sarath Kamal advanced to the third round after losing the first set in the second round to Portugal’s Diego by four sets to two. Sarath Kamal became the first player to reach the third round of the Olympics in table tennis.
