The crazy story of an iPhone that spent ten months in a river | Unusual

Owain Davies had dropped his iPhone XR in a river in England while canoeing in August 2021. He had no idea that he would find his smartphone in perfect working order ten months later. An unbelievable story.

Owain Davies, a young man from Edinburgh in Scotland, had participated in a bachelor party in August 2021. On the program: a canoe trip on the Wye, one of the longest rivers in the United Kingdom. An eventful ride since Owain found himself in the water because of his partner, as he explains to the BBC. His iPhone XR, which was in his back pocket, was missing.

Ten months later, Miguel Pacheco, from Drybrook in Gloucestershire, was also canoeing on the Wye with his daughter when he spotted a ‘blue object’ in the water, which turned out to be an iPhone. Miguel retrieved the sodden smartphone and took it home to dry it using an air compressor. “I told myself that if I lost my iPhone, which contains many photos of my children, I would absolutely like to recover it”, explains Miguel to justify his gesture.

And there was light

The next morning, Miguel couldn’t believe his eyes when the screen of the iPhone, which had just spent nearly a year in a river, lit up after putting it to charge. A photo of a couple appeared in the background, and the date displayed was Friday, August 13, 2021, the day he fell in the water.

Miguel Pacheco posted an ad on Facebook to find the owner of the iPhone. Problem: Owain Davies hadn’t been on social media for months. The publication having been widely shared, it nevertheless reached the friends of Owain and his fiancée, who directly recognized the couple on the wallpaper of the phone.

Owain said he was impressed with the efforts that Miguel had made to restore his iPhone to working order and then return it to its owner.
