Daniel Jimenez, Assistant Secretary AMPROSsaid that the reference hospital in pediatrics from the province of Mendozathe Dr. Humberto Notti Pediatric Hospital, has less and less specialized professionals and warned that it is due to lack of training or because they are emigrating to other provinces and even to other countries such as Spain. He warned that this prevents a positive future projection.
Jimenez warned that today the situation in the model pediatric hospital is critical and attributed this to two fundamental factors: the growth in demand, because respiratory diseases are on the rise, and the lack of professionals in pediatrics. In relation to the latter, he said that “they do not appear at the residencies. I understand that there were 15 positions for the pediatric residency this year and only 5 were presented, unlike other years that it was a highly demanded specialty.”
The interviewee of MDZ Radio explained that there is a lack of training in pediatrics and in several key specialties to take care of the health of the little ones. “A medical professional needs to study 6 years of career, plus 4 years of specialty and then for a subspecialty, such as neonatology or intensive care, it requires 3 more years. It takes a long time to train them and this is not reflected in the salary, because a recently graduated doctor almost charges the same as one with a specialty or a subspecialty”.
Mendoza only has 3 qualified pediatric hospitals: in the public area the Humberto Notti and in private or social works the Fleming and the spanish hospital. And while the deputy secretary of AMPROS He said that he would not transfer to the rest of the hospitals, he warned that “many professionals are migrating to other countries, where they find better working conditions and that is unfortunate. Many migrate to Spain, where neonatologists have an approximate remuneration of 5 or 6 thousand euros a month”.
It is that “this does not escape the problems of the country and the macroeconomy. Many young people finish the specialty and think about leaving. That is the serious thing, because we cannot make a projection for the coming years that allows us to have excellent health and quality as it has always provided Nightswhich is the one that receives the most complex pathologies”.
In addition to this, many doctors go to other provinces, such as saint Louis, which have a spectacular infrastructure, but without professionals, then they offer great working conditions and salaries. Unlike that, in Mendoza“in 2020 he ‘rewarded’ health professionals with a 0% increase, like all state employees. And a year without a raise leaves us with half the salary in our pockets, added to the fact that in the other parity the inflation exceeded the margins of increase”.
