The oldest Belgian celebrated her 111th birthday on March 18. Born in Braives, in the province of Liège, on March 18, 1911, Marcelle Lévaz worked for a long time as a milliner.
She had become, successively, in 2021, dean of the Walloons, then dean of the Belgians before finally becoming the dean of Benelux.
Marcelle Lévaz died Sunday evening shortly after 9:00 p.m. She lived at the White Farm, in the village of Pousset, in the Liège entity of Remicourt.
The new Belgian dean is Magdalena Janssens. Born March 16, 1912 born in Antwerp, she currently lives in Zandhoven. She is also the new dean of the Benelux, according to the European Supercentenarians Organisation.
