The average number of daily Sars-Cov-2 infections continues to decline, with 1,801.4 new daily cases over the period from December 20 to 26 (-29% compared to the previous calculation period). At least 641,411 cases of Covid-19 have been diagnosed in Belgium since the start of the epidemic, according to provisional results presented on Wednesday by the Sciensano Public Health Institute.

Over the same period, an average of 77 people per day have died from the coronavirus (-18%), for a total of 19,361 since March.

From December 23 to 27, 158 new admissions were recorded on average each day (-14%). The number of people currently hospitalized for Covid-19 stood at 2,423 on Wednesday morning, including 499 in intensive care.

The incidence from 12 to 25 December amounts to 264.2 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants (-5%), while the reproduction rate remains at 0.92.
