Dano: The dilapidation of the CMA’s only ambulance makes evacuations difficult (Observation)

Dano, August 13, 2022 (AIB) – The Medical Center with Surgical Antenna (CMA) in Dano is encountering difficulties in evacuating patients due to the dilapidation of the only ambulance, the AIB noted this Saturday.

The reference hospital of the health district, namely the Medical Center with Surgical Antenna (CMA) of Dano, is encountering difficulties in evacuating to the regional and university hospitals of Gaoua, Bobo Dioulasso and Ouagadougou.

This is due to the dilapidation of the only ambulance currently operating at the CMA in Dano, the AIB noted on Saturday.

According to the paramedic, the old ambulance can take more than 03 hours to reach the regional hospital center (CHR) of Gaoua, 117 km away.

The ambulance received by the municipality of Dano under the presidential program in 2021 was damaged following an accident on the return of a patient referral to Bobo-Dioulasso.

This new ambulance could not operate for more than 04 months.

The acting chief medical officer of the Dano health district, Dr. Salam Mandé spoke about all the difficulties related to the evacuation of patients to other centers during the Ioba provincial health council on July 27th.

He noted that the CMA is obliged to request assistance from municipalities close to Dano such as Oronkua, Guéguéré and Koper.

Often, their request does not get a favorable response for several reasons, he pointed out.

The time taken by these ambulances to arrive in Dano also decreases the chances of survival of the patients to be transported.

This is why the administrative authorities of the province of Ioba have launched an appeal to come to the aid of the CMA in order to save the lives of the populations.

In the meantime, the staffing of a new ambulance by the State or by goodwill, the seven (07) other municipalities will support the health district with their ambulance, instructed the Secretary General of the province of Ioba, Sanfiénalé Sirima.

This solution is not without difficulties also because some municipalities do not have the substantial financial means for the maintenance of their ambulance, learned the AIB.
