It is a real ordeal that lives Claire Coché. Since a bicycle accident at the age of 6, she has been severely disabled and is in a wheelchair, reports RTBF.
When she wanted to fly to Lisbon to visit her cousin, the TAP company refused her from the flight. At issue: his 167kg wheelchair. When giving his specific needs, he was told: “We cannot accept your request”. She tried, in vain, to call the company: “I have been trying since November to reach a physical person and impossible. I cannot reply to the email. When I phone, it rings in a vacuum,” she says, before continuing: “After several phone calls, she tells me that my chair is too heavy, weighing 175kg. No appeal possible”. She calls for help: “Help me friends! »
Claire asked for help from the Unia, the center for equal opportunities and against discrimination and should be successful, according to William Matgen who told RTBF: “She must refund the ticket or rebook the person free on board another plane where the wheelchair will fit. If this is not the case, it must offer him compensation of 250 to 600 euros depending on the distance of the flight”.
Not welcoming a traveler remains a source of discrimination according to the European Union. Unfortunately, the galleys continue for Claire Coché.
