The election of Jean-Christophe Lagarde to the municipal council of Drancy still canceled

Jean-Christophe Lagarde at the National Assembly, March 1, 2022.

The administrative court of Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis) canceled, Thursday, September 8, the election of the former deputy and boss of the UDI Jean-Christophe Lagarde as deputy to the municipal council of Drancy, where he seeks to sit since his defeat in the legislative elections. Following a hearing on Wednesday, the administrative court of Montreuil thus considered that the conditions under which the elections were held were not in conformity.

During the municipal council of July 7, the resignation of the deputy to whom Mr. Lagarde wants to succeed had not been registered by the services of the prefecture of Seine-Saint-Denis. On July 14, during a second council convened urgently before the summer break, the procedure was also not carried out according to the rules.

In question, the“impossibility for the municipal council to organize a second vote after the proclamation of the results of the July 7 election”, the court ruled. Clearly, Mr. Lagarde should first have resigned, then a new election to be held, according to the explanations of the elected Drancean Hacène Chibane, fierce opponent of Mr. Lagarde, at the initiative of the appeal.

“I am satisfied with this decision which underlines the expeditious nature of the maneuver and the somewhat dictatorial side I do what I want, as I want. There are rules”he reacted.

Taken into custody on Wednesday

He affirms that the return of the former deputy at the helm in Drancy (72,000 inhabitants), a city he led from 2001 to 2017 and over which he has always watched, has the sole purpose of “to offer a real golden parachute”.

Contacted by Agence France-Presse, Mr. Lagarde was unreachable Thursday evening.

Nearly two months after his defeat in the legislative elections in his stronghold of the fifth district of the department, facing the “rebellious” Raquel Garrido, Jean-Christophe also finds himself in the midst of a legal storm. One of his former collaborators was indicted on Thursday in the investigation into the false accusations of the Point having targeted, during the campaign, the deputies LFI Raquel Garrido and Alexis Corbière.
