The full equipment for a character should cost up to 100,000 euros

The free-to-play game developed for smartphones Diablo Immortal raises tempers. Fully equipping a character gets really expensive.

100,000 euros for a top character?

It was foreseeable that Diablo Immortal would not exactly be squeamish with its monetization – after all, there are numerous templates for mobile action role-playing games, which cleverly lure one or two euros out of the player’s pocket in the free-to-play model. NetEase and ActivisionBlizzard might have overdone it a bit with Diablo Immortal though.

Like the Youtube channel Bellular News in one detailed video analyzedit can get really expensive to equip your character with the best equipment to be successful in PvP and in the rankings.

The main reason for this is the system through which the important, legendary gems can be obtained. Because they are the central element for the respective build in Diablo Immortals later in the game. They can be leveled and later even awakened and further upgraded, which takes a lot of time.

Cannot be reached without real money
The problem: The gems in particular are mainly earned via the so-called elder portal, which is like a kind of playable loot box. You generate a dungeon with so-called badges, of which the rarer ones naturally bring better loot once you’ve killed the final boss. The difference between “no badge” and “three legendary badges” is striking, as streamer Asmongold presents in a clip on Twitter:

And the best way to get them is with real money. The process is intentionally convoluted, confusing, and involves a lot of luck in the end – with a relatively low drop rate of legendary gems, according to dataminers.

In addition, the strongest gems seem to be completely linked to real money transactions – so even with an extreme investment of time, a free-to-play character can never be as good as a character for which money was invested.
According to Bellular News, if players want to fully customize their character, they can put around $100,000 into the game. A surprisingly large sum in every respect.

But: This maximum loadout is probably not necessary for simply playing the campaign. You can read in our upcoming test what effects monetization has on the gaming experience and whether Diablo Immortal is worthwhile for its campaign content.
