The Galaxy S22 Ultra outsold the latest Galaxy Notes

Le Galaxy S22 Ultra has replaced the Galaxy Note in the Samsung catalog. A strategy that pays, given that the ultra premium smartphone has sold more than eleven million copies. A feat that had not been achieved since the Galaxy Note 8 in 2017.

Galaxy S22 Ultra

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is a real hit, since it has surpassed the 11 million copies sold mark. A real success that shows that Samsung’s strategy has paid off. The terminal thus exceeds the Galaxy Note 8, the last smartphone in the range to have exceeded 10 million.

As a reminder, the Galaxy S22 Ultra replaces the Note range which is no longer of much interest today. He thus embarks a stylus directly integrated into its shell and is placed on the ultra premium segment.

The Galaxy Note, Samsung’s flagship smartphones during the 2010 decade

The first Galaxy Note was released in 2011 and had two strong arguments to convince: its huge 5.3-inch screen (gigantic for the time) and the presence of a stylus. Over the years, smartphone panels have grown larger and the Note has lost interest.

In 2016, Samsung was forced to remove the Galaxy Note 7 from sale due to numerous cases of battery explosion. This did not prevent the Galaxy Note 8 to reach 10 million units sold in 2017.

But the following years, sales have plummeted. The latest model was released in 2020: the Galaxy Note 20 (and Note 20 Ultra). A product that clearly failed to convince the crowds. Samsung reportedly released 600,000 units from its factories alone. We can attribute this poor performance to the Covid, but also to the lack of interest in the telephone.

If the Note 20 was clearly not a bad smartphoneit did not offer anything incredible for its price. He could no longer rely on his size (panels over 6 inches having become a norm) and the stylus was no longer enough.

Samsung has therefore decided to totally abandon the Note range. The relay was taken over by the S22 Ultra, which takes up all the arguments of the Notes on its own: large screen (at least larger than the other S22s) and presence of a stylus. A strategy that makes sense and pays off.
