The government is conducting an in-depth investigation of KT network failures… Checking for recovery

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 25th that it is conducting an in-depth investigation into KT’s wired and wireless Internet failures that occurred for about 40 minutes from 11:20 am on the 25th.

The Ministry of Science and ICT explained that according to the information and communication accident risk management manual, the information communication accident crisis warning ‘caution’ was issued at 11:56 a.m. on the same day.

The Ministry of Science and ICT has also established the ‘Broadcasting Communication Disaster Response Situation Room’ with the Information Protection Network Policy Officer as the head of the situation office and is also checking whether KT service is restored.

The Ministry of Science and ICT is also investigating the cause of the accident with related experts open to various possibilities such as system errors and cyber attacks.

An official from the Ministry of Science and ICT said, “We have KT investigate the current state of damage to users, and we plan to prepare follow-up measures such as measures to prevent recurrence after investigating the cause of the accident.”

At first, KT explained that the Internet failure that occurred this morning was caused by a ‘distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack’, but after about two hours, it corrected its position as a failure due to a setting error.

In the second notice, KT said, “Initially, it was estimated that it was DDoS due to traffic overload, but after a close inspection, we identified a routing (network route setting) error as the cause.” “We will investigate more specific issues with the government.” did.
