The Chamber approved, in the night of Wednesday to Thursday, in plenary session a bill of the PS, party of the Minister of the Economy Pierre-Yves Dermagne, co-signed by the other groups of the majority, aiming to temporarily extend a number of corona measures and to introduce other transitional and temporary ones relating to economic unemployment.

In concrete terms, the temporary unemployment scheme for force majeure is extended to workers if it is impossible for their child to attend crèche, school or reception center for the disabled. Quarantine leave is also extended until December 31.

It also provides for a transition between July 1 and December 31 from the temporary unemployment scheme to the traditional scheme.

Finally, the bill provides for the obligation to pay a salary for the employer who has unduly placed his worker in a system of temporary unemployment and provides for the possibility for the National Employment Office (Onem) to recover the allowances unduly paid to the employer.

The text was approved by the majority and Les Engagés. The N-VA voted against. Vlaams Belang, PTB and DéFI abstained.
