It’s official, the Montreal Impact becomes the Montreal Football Club.
The organization officially unveiled its new identity during a press briefing held Thursday morning.
While waiting to know the reception of the amateurs, the organization explained that the name “foot” was preferred to “soccer”, mentioning that Quebec has always been noticed by its difference, being in a way a bridge between the North America and Europe.
President and CEO Kevin Gilmore participated in the unveiling along with renowned creative strategist Justin Kingsley, who served as co-creative director on this project.
Owner Joey Saputo made the announcement himself, saying the team would henceforth be known as “Club de Foot Montreal or CF Montreal”.
“The real winners are always looking to improve,” said Mr. Saputo, believing that the identity change will have a better impact for the club at the international level.
“To have an impact, we need to withdraw the Impact,” he added, promising that the Montreal team would eventually lift many trophies. It is not a question of “if”, but a question of “when”. “
A new logo
In December, the Impact confirmed that a major identity change would be unveiled in 2021.
The change is accompanied by a new logo. Once in the shape of a shield, the new logo is now round and adorned with a snowflake in the center.
The fleur-de-lis is still present, but no longer forms the center as before. This is because the club now defines itself as Montrealers above all and claims to be part of the diversity of the Quebec metropolis.
The “Montreal Football Club” specifies that black was going to be highlighted first, just like blue.
“Our favorite color is black,” we mentioned in a presentation document. Our roots are blue. ”
Finally, a new motto: “Straight ahead”.
“It’s something historic for me to be part of this change, reacted the club’s coach, Thierry Henry. You have to evolve in life, you have to go through it. It’s super important, it’s a new start. “
Founded in 1992 and joined MLS in the 2012 season, the club had always carried the name of the Impact.

With the new identity will come a new jersey, the club said.
“The jersey will be unveiled in the first or second week of February,” confirmed Kevin Gilmore.
