Every week, on the indie scene, dozens of games are released everywhere, whether on PC, PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch. Our goal at JV is to sort the wheat from the chaff to direct you to the most solid projects. So on the program today, action, rogue-lite and – of course – original titles. Here’s your weekly dose of indies!

Backpack Hero (Early Access)

When we tell you that independent games have more than one trick up their sleeve, it’s not for nothing! Here come Backpack Heroand “inventory management rogue-lite” – as stated on the project’s Steam page. Here, your power will not only be determined by the items you carry, but more importantly how they are organized. In a gameplay trailer, we can notably see the hero – a very cute mouse – chain three dagger throws, insofar as these are carefully arranged next to each other. Backpack Hero also has an exploration aspect through dungeons, caves and swamps. In the future (it’s an early access release) there will even be a system to improve your city.

Rollerdrome

So this game, we didn’t see it coming at all. Some time ago, the Roll7 studio – behind the Olli Olli skate license – announced Rollerdromea third-person action game that mixes pleasure of sliding and that of shooting enemies. Yes yes, here, it is a question of rollerblading in arenas while facing the bad guy. And it promises to be solid. “Rollerdrome is currently a treat in terms of sensations” we wrote during our preview. “With its comfortable grip, well-balanced levels, the roller shooter is a call for perfect dodging and piercing shooting”. It all takes place in 2030, at a time when excess and ordinary violence have made people addicted to this new sport. Hurry to play it.

Cursed to Golf

We continue with another game that is original – that’s what we like after all. Let us introduce you Cursed to Golf, a game that mixes the favorite discipline of Tiger Woods and rogue-lite, just that. Here you play as the “Cursed Golfer”, mowed down by death just before making the final winning move of his career. Fortunately (if we can say so) you will be able to find life in arriving at the end of the “Golfic Purgatory”. Suffice to say that it will not be pie. Because there are not only bunkers or difficult obstacles in the beyond, but also traps of all kinds, ventilators, spikes, and even teleporters. Somehow, it will be necessary to snatch the victory by succeeding in the holes in a specific number of moves.

RPG Time The Legend of Wright

What, you want even more originality? Well we continue with RPG Time The Legend of Wright, a role-playing game like no other – already released last year on Xbox. A project that is reminiscent of a certain “The Plucky Squire”. Here, it is a question of living a beautiful adventure through Kenta’s notebook – who drew a whole universe there. All his creations will thus come to life, whether they are decorations scribbled in pencil, structures made of cardboard, with several styles of play as a bonus. We obviously find turn-based combat but also action-adventure and bullet hell (dodge a whole bunch of projectiles). On the project’s Steam page, we read that RPG Time has received a whole bunch of awards around the world. Good sign !

Thymesia

In a completely different genre, we now present to you Thymesia : a promising Souls-like that may get you back on track after the incredible Elden Ring. Because here, it is also a question of demanding fights as well as action that is played out to the nearest centimeter! You play as Corvus – a raven-masked hero who has the power toabsorb enemy powers to turn them against them. Very practical to get rid of the many evil spells that await firmly. “Corvus is the kingdom’s last hope (…) The truth lies deep within the memories Corvus scatters across this unforgiving world – only by bringing them all together can he save the kingdom” the page tells us. Steam. We hope for a nice surprise.

We Are OFK

We end with a narrative experience that should not leave you indifferent, We Are OFK. It is about discovering the behind the scenes of virtual group formation of the same name: “a story of dreams, loves and rent payments in Los Angeles”. It’s an interactive series, which – like the Telltale games – will be released periodically, one episode per week with a new song from the group each time. The whole thing is also accompanied by a nice artistic direction and a dubbing work that promises to be convincing. All in all – we could have a very nice story. Get ready, We Are OK is about to land.
