Smiles, hugs and tears of joy, accompanied by banners, balloons and flowers, were the protagonists at the Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport yesterday during the start of the second phase of the gradual reactivation of air operations in the country.
Susana Gutiérrez, one of the passengers who arrived on the first international flight from Miami, Florida, was happy to be able to return to her homeland after months of being “stranded” outside the country.
“Since April I have been trying to buy the ticket, I bought it about four times. I feel very happy, there is nothing like one’s home, the people, the rhythm. My family is waiting for me out there and I’m very excited, ”said Susana Gutiérrez.
Outside the airport, at the departure gate for travelers landing in the city, Carmen Fernández, an older woman, was holding some balloons in her hands and kept leaning out anxious to see her older sister in the distance, who was trapped in the United States when the pandemic started.
“Since January my sister went for a medical check-up, the pandemic caught her and could not return. We are happy, a giant emotion because it was something uncertain, every month they postponed the opening of the airport and it was not achieved, until finally, this is like a reunion of a new life, “said the woman.
