Very often I hear people around me say that the technological world is slowing down, at least when it comes to innovations in classic consumer electronics. While years ago innovations were much more visible and tangible, in recent years, according to some, the progress of their products is very slow, while Apple is unfortunately no exception in this sense. Whether or not you agree with this opinion, it is good to look back from time to time and realize how far technology has come in recent years and that what a few years ago was just a dream is now a reality. The thing is, we may not be aware of it as sensitively as we should.
A great example is the extreme performance increase of electronics. If, like me, you are a fan of video game consoles and have been playing on them for a long time, you will surely agree with me when I say that playing on Xbox One, that is, PlayStation 4, is a great experience, especially due to the fact that that the graphics of the games can be executed, it is not bad at all. If you’re a little older, you’ll agree with me that it’s almost unbelievable how far the gaming world has come during its existence. For example, I can vividly remember the moments when I “crushed” FIFU 2000 or the original Mafia on the computer, with the fact that now we rather laugh at the graphics of these games.
And that brings us to the merits of this article. As a result, the consoles we played years ago, and that some of you probably still play, are now less powerful than the latest iPhones. If we were to compare the graphics performance in Tflops of the Xbox One (S) or the PlayStation 4, we would find that it is significantly lower than the performance of the iPhone 16 (Pro), which Apple recently showed off. Of course, the comparison is not entirely fair, since we are talking about products that are 11 years apart, and also the fact that the console can maintain this performance thanks to active cooling, etc., but it is still an insight quite interesting. where the world has moved technologically.
In a battle between the original Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 4 had the advantage. Here’s a quick comparison:
- Xbox One: The GPU worked approx. 1.31 teraflops.
- Playstation 4: The GPU worked approx. 1.84 teraflops.
Thanks to the higher number of teraflops, the PlayStation 4 had better graphics performance, and this was reflected in higher quality graphics in some games, especially at higher resolutions. Both consoles had 8GB of RAM, but the PlayStation 4 used the faster GDDR5 memory type, while the Xbox One used the slower DDR3, which also affected performance. And how are current iPhones faring in terms of Tflops?
The current generation of iPhone
- iPhone 16 – 2,15 Tflops
- iPhone 16 Pro – 2,4 Tflops
Old generation consoles:
- Xbox One – 1,3 TFlops
- XBOX ONE S – 1,4 TFlops
- Xbox One X – 6,0 TFlops
- PlayStation 4 – 1,84TFlops
- playstation 4 pro 4,2 Mayo failures
Current generation of consoles:
- Xbox series s – 4,0 TFlops
- Xbox Series X – 12,16 TFlops
- Playstation 5 – 10,28 Tflops
And just for fun. The Power Brick for the original Xbox One was quite large and sturdy, measuring approximately 17cm long, 7.5cm wide and 5cm high, and weighing around 900 grams. This power adapter was around 220 watts. Newer models such as the Xbox One S and Xbox One X already have the power adapter built into the console, so an external power source is not needed. At the same time, the dimensions of the iPhone 16 Pro are only approximately 15 x 7.1 x 0.8 cm with a weight of 199 grams. Thus, after 11 years of technological progress, it was possible to create a device that works better than the source that powers the popular Xbox One game console.
