The Kia Carnival is heading to the US as a stylish MPV with an SUV look and eight seats

The fourth generation of the Kia Carnival is heading to the USA as a stylish MPV, which should attract those interested, for example, with its adventurous appearance, spacious cabin and space for up to eight passengers.

MPVs have been in decline in recent years, but Kia believes the new generation of the Carnival, which replaces the third generation sold under the Sedona brand in the US, could score for customers. From the very beginning, the design of the car was conceived in such a way as to differentiate itself from the competition and attack the senses of those interested in SUVs who want a large and dominant-looking car, but do not need off-road capabilities.

The aim was to make the new generation body look taller, wider and more versatile. At the same time, the carmaker again used its iconic mask in the shape of a tiger’s nose, which is followed by LED headlights with a stylish light signature. In addition, the entire bow is decorated with rich chrome plating and there is also an innovated logo of the carmaker.

The side lines are quite simple, but the emphasized protection of the sills gives the car a more adventurous look. It is also interesting to connect the side door travel bar to the rear lights, or a color combination of pillars. The A, B and D columns were given black paint, thanks to which the roof floats optically. However, the C-pillar is followed by a distinctive silver bar, which gives the car a premium look.

At the back, the untraditionally shaped lamps with a distinctive LED signature, which stretches practically across the entire fifth door, will once again captivate you. There is also a decent spoiler and a plastic-coated lower part of the bumper, which should again emphasize the adventurous character of the car. There are 17 “wheels in the underbody as standard, but there are also 19” cast discs on offer.

However, unlike some competitors, the Kia Carnival does not offer all-wheel drive and has only one engine on offer. This is a 3.5-liter V6 engine with an output of 216 kW with 355 Nm of torque, which turns the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. At the same time, Kia also offers the same motorization for the Telluride model, which has all-wheel drive. There is still at least a small chance that customers could expect an ATV in the future.

The basis of the car is the new N3 platform, which offers higher rigidity without added weight compared to previous platforms. In addition, the carmaker added a good layer of soundproofing and worked on the aerodynamics of fenders, bumpers and wheels, which reduced aerodynamic drag, made the engine easier to work and ensured a quieter stay in the cabin.

The interior offers a modern look, divided by several horizontal lines, as well as rich technological equipment. The basic equipment includes analog alarm clocks and only an 8 ”infotainment display, but higher equipment will offer a digital instrument panel and an infotanment with a diagonal of 12.3 inches. In addition, the car in the photos reveals premium trim or two-tone seat upholstery.

The cabin offers a total of three rows of seats for a maximum of eight passengers. In the second and third rows there are standard benches for three passengers, but in the VIP Lounge equipment in the second row there can be two comfortable armchairs with electric control, heating and ventilation and footstools that offer premium travel. Unfortunately, unlike the standard bench in the second row, they cannot be removed, while the bench in the third row simply folds down to the floor. The carmaker does not disassemble the space in any way, but when the rear bench is folded down, the MPV should offer a cargo space with a volume of over 4.1 m3.

However, you will also be interested in the rich offer of equipment, which includes, for example, an intercom for more convenient communication, a pair of screens for the second row, night vision system, contactless opening of the fifth door and sliding side doors, notifications for leaving children or animals in the rear seats, 9 USB ports, 110V socket and a rich supply of security assistants. There are systems for lane driving, blind spot monitoring, parking sensors, driver fatigue alerts, a pre-collision assistant or a system that automatically stops the car in the event of an accident.

The prices have not been mentioned yet, but the new Kia Carnival should arrive at American dealers at the beginning of this spring.
