Emma Coronel Aispuro , wife of the famous Mexican drug lord Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, was arrested Monday afternoon at Dulles International Airport by US agents. According to the newspaper Reforma, a letter and several kilos of heroin played an important role in the accusation of drug trafficking that led to his arrest.

According to a statement filed on Wednesday February 17 to obtain the arrest warrant against the former beauty queen, the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that it has in its possession a letter allegedly written by Guzmán in which negotiates with one of his partners (nicknamed ‘Cleto’) the heroin trade.

‘Regarding’ Cleto ‘tell him to increase production to make it work. Say hello to ‘Cleto’. Tell him please give me a hand so that the first sale is on my part … because I have many expenses here, ‘says Guzmán’s alleged letter to Colonel Aispuro quoted by FBI agent Eric McGuire.

Although it is not dated, it is presumed that the letter was written by the drug trafficker in one of the periods that he spent in the Altiplano prison in the State of Mexico, between 2014 and 2017, and from which he escaped in July 2015. The letter It would serve as proof that Coronel was aware of the operations that her husband coordinated from the prison and, even more, Emma would have received the money from the sale of five kilograms of heroin, as explained by FBI agent McGuire.

“I know from my research that ‘Cleto’ and Cooperating Witness One provided Coronel with drug sales proceeds of more than 5 kilograms of heroin,” McGuire explained. “Coronel (Aispuro) knows and understands that the Sinaloa Cartel is the most prolific cartel in Mexico,” he added.

‘Coronel knew that the proceeds of the drugs that she handled during her marriage to Guzmán were derived from these shipments. In addition, from 2012 to 2014, Coronel transmitted messages on behalf of Guzmán to promote drug trafficking activities, ‘he said. The FBI agent made it clear that also, based on the testimonies of Cooperating Witness One, Emma Coronel was also directly involved in the planning of Guzmán’s escape from the Altiplano prison via a tunnel in 2015.

‘According to Cooperator Witness One, Coronel (Aispuro) met with him and asked him for help in Guzmán’s escape from the Altiplano prison. Collaborating Witness One agreed to help. Later, Coronel (Aispuro) met with Cooperator Witness One, Iván, Alfredo, Ovidio and Joaquín and communicated Guzmán’s instructions on the escape plan, ‘said McGuire.

‘I ask you that there is always an agreement between you and my four children. Hire accountants throughout the state, pay the people and widows there and what is left each month, half is for you and half is for the four of them (…) You know who has the papers for that place. Send them to the twins, please. The mother of the twins will tell you and my children something. Please be alert, buddy. She will explain … The mother of the twins will bring a message to you and everyone, so that you can see it personally ‘, reads another fragment of a letter that reveals the complicity of Emma (mother of Joaquín’s youngest daughters Guzman).
