Exclusive translation: Italian police officers today seized a £570 million luxury yacht allegedly owned by Russian President Vladimir Putin, near Pisa, as part of sanctions against Russia over the invasion of Ukraine.
According to the Daily Mail, officers boarded The Scheherazade to present papers to British yacht captain Guy Bennett Pierce, telling him he would not be able to sail from the dry dock as it was undergoing a multi-million pound renovation.
Authorities in the Italian port of Marina di Carrara near Pisa have been trawling through paperwork in a bid to identify the ship’s ultimate owner since March.
Exclusive footage obtained by MailOnline shows a launch from the Italian financial police approaching the yacht with its flashing blue lights.
The officers then boarded the yacht and a crew member in a white polo shirt is seen walking on the gang board to meet them, and the pier is surrounded by several police cars while filing papers.
A helicopter also circled the yacht to make sure it didn’t set sail while a large crowd of spectators gathered to watch.
