The most expensive carrier pigeon in history is Belgian: New Kim sold 1,600,000 euros!

The buyer with the nickname “Super Dumper” ultimately won the auction. The bird was auctioned Sunday for the record amount of 1,600,000 euros at an auction in Knesselare, East Flanders, organized by the auction house Pigeon Paradise (Pipa).

The auctions began on Monday, November 2. After 90 minutes, a South African was already ready to donate 1,310,000 euros for New Kim, a two-year-old female. If the sale, spread over two weeks, looked promising, Nikolaas Gyselbrecht, CEO of Pipa, thought that prices would soar at the last moment, just before the gong set for this Sunday, November 15 at 11 a.m. sharp.

The animal belonged to the Van De Wouwer family, originally from Beerlaar.

The sale marks the end of the career of New Kim, one of the best long distance, middle distance and speed pigeons in the world history of pigeon racing. The buyer will certainly use the bird for reproductive purposes, to breed new champions. The previous record was held by another Belgian pigeon, Armando, sold last year for 1,252,000 euros to a Chinese magnate. In fact, New Kim was part of a sale in which Pipa Paradise offered no less than 445 carrier pigeons from the Van De Wouwer loft, but of course not all of them are of the same value as the star pigeon.
