BMW is an iconic brand in the history of the automobile. It very early on made the choice to move towards electric as with this new model: the XM.
BMW is one of the most important brands in the world. At the head of a large automotive group, the Bavarian firm was part the first to appear on the electrical market with models like the i3, produced in 2013. But the company had never before electrified its wide range of SUVs, so here it is, for better or for worse. During Art Basel in Miami, BMW took advantage of the event to present to the world the “most powerful car the brand has ever created”, the BMW XM. With over 750 horsepower and 1,000 newton-meters of torque, the car offers features that make ultra-sporty supercars from Lamborghini or McLaren tremble.
Mixed feedback from the public
But behind that glorious spec line, the reality is duller. Indeed, with more than 2.5 tons on the scale, the new concept car from BMW is unlikely to stick your head against the seat. Even more problematic, this car, advertised as a hybrid but capable of running entirely electrically, only has a range of 80 kilometers if the driver decides to put his large V8 engine aside.
In addition to this somewhat disappointing electrification, the Bavarian company, known for its love of beautiful lines and sporty designs, surprised everyone by presenting this car. With more than five meters long, 1.73 meters high and more than 2 meters wide, the dimensions are more reminiscent of a pleasure boat than of a car. Equipped with a huge grille at the front, the vehicle completely denotes the DNA of BMW, once strong on the part of the brand which ensures that it wants to make this model its line of conduct for the next generations of Bavarian SUVs.
Marketing from 2022
Very confident about its project, which received a more than mixed reception on social networks, BMW does not seem to be deflating and to announce that the marketing of this power monster was planned for next year. With an all-leather interior in a very (too?) Vintage aspect, BMW is definitely taking a lot of risk with this new car which is a direct competitor of the Lamborghini Urus or the Rolls Royce Cullinam, two luxury SUVs whose price purchase starts above 100,000 euros.
Production of the model should therefore begin in the coming months from the American plant in Spartanburg (South Carolina). A logical choice for the brand which is already building several of its SUVs there (X3, X5 or X7). If no official price has been announced, the car should be in the same price range as the Urus, around 120,000 euros.
