The mother of the killer of Uvalde tries to explain the massacre: “Do not judge my son, he had his reasons”

Last week, a new murderous massacre hit the United States. Salvador Ramos opened fire in a Texas school in Uvalde and killed 21 people. A real tragedy. Questioned by CNN, Adriana Martinez Reyes, the mother of the killer, was necessarily in shock. “I just want the innocent children who died to forgive me”she began.

The journalists then asked her the question of what she wanted to say to the parents of the victims. “Forgive me, forgive my son, I know he has his reasons. He had his reasons for doing what he did and please don’t judge him”, she added, moved to tears. About these reasons, she admits that she does not understand. “I have no words to say. I don’t know what he was thinking.”

Since Tuesday’s killings, the media had raised the possibility that he received a firearm at Christmas. She refuted this theory: “No. People pay a lot of attention to social media and it’s a big deal.”

According to her, nothing predestined her son to such an act of madness. “He was very calm, very calm. He didn’t bother anyone, he didn’t do anything to anyone.” According to CNN media, the 18-year-old boy did not have a good relationship with his mother. That’s why he lived with his grandmother. Before carrying out his massacre, he had also opened fire on this mother figure.

“He should have just killed me”

Salvador Ramos’ father has also spoken out. “I just want people to know that I’m sorry for what my son did,” he began for The Daily Beast. “I didn’t expect my son to do something like this,” he continued. “He should have just killed me instead of doing something like that to someone.”

The father didn’t have a great relationship with his son either. By his own admission, he hadn’t spent much time with him. He also explained that the Covid and the isolation linked to the containment may have played a role. Above all, the author of the shooting felt persecuted in his school environment. “He dropped out of school because people made fun of him because of his clothes. And he was bullied a lot. He was a quiet person, withdrawn into himself. He didn’t bother anyone. People always bothered. My son was never a violent person. I’m very surprised by what he did.”

The father wanted to apologize to the victims. “I pray for those families. I pray for all those innocent children; yes, I pray. They had nothing to do with it.” Before concluding: “I will never see my son again, just as they will never see their children again. And it hurts me.”
