LOS ANGELES | The mysterious disappearance of a young New Yorker, who was documenting on social networks her trip through the United States in a converted “van”, arouses great interest among Americans, a police video revealed Thursday placing her fiancé in a light unfavorable.
Gabrielle Petito, 22, had left New York in July with her partner Brian Laundrie, 23, the start of a van trip that was supposed to last four months and the stages of which were regularly shared by the couple on Instagram and YouTube, to through photos and videos.
During this “road trip” in the grandiose setting of the national parks of the American West, we see the blonde with blue eyes walking a canyon river or surfing sand dunes.
But it was alone that Brian Laundrie returned to their Florida home on September 1, ten days before Gabrielle Petito’s family reported her missing, according to police in North Port, where the couple reside.
The young woman, whose last contact with her family dates back to the end of August, was reportedly last seen in the very majestic Grand Teton National Park, in Wyoming.
Brian Laundrie “did not show willingness to answer investigators’ questions” and “did not provide useful information”, according to police, who announced Wednesday deem him “worthy of the investigation” , without going so far as to officially consider him suspect for the moment.
As proof of the media interest in the case, North Port Police said they had given interviews to “all major television stations and about 60 media outlets in the past 48 hours.”
“Brian refuses to tell Gabby’s family where he last saw her. Brian also refuses to explain why he left Gabby alone and drove the van to Florida. These are crucial questions that require immediate answers, ”pleaded the family of the traveler in a statement.
“How can Brian stay behind when he’s the only person who knows Gabby’s whereabouts?”
Police in Moab, a small town in Utah, intervened on Aug. 12 in what appeared to be an argument between the couple, several US media reported.
The young woman appears very moved on a video recorded by the pedestrian camera of an agent, made public Thursday by the police.
America is passionate about the disappearance of the young woman, many messages being posted on social networks to try to help find her, and accounts with several thousand subscribers on Instagram follow the progress of the investigation.
