The Lower House of Parliament voted this Wednesday, August 3, the bill on the general status of the Public Service. One of the major reforms included in this text concerns the passage of the legal retirement age to 65 years, initially set at 60 years.

The National Assembly met this Wednesday in Brazzaville during a working session on the draft law on pension reform in Congo. In the presence of their president Isidore Mvouba, the deputies examined this text sent by the government aimed at extending careers. Thus, the age limit for admission to retirement for civil servants will be raised from 60 to 65 for category I civil servants; from 60 to 63 for category II officials; from 57 to 60 years old for civil servants in category III and from 65 to 70 years old for executives placed outside the categories, indicates MP Exaucé Ngambili Ibam, rapporteur for the Law Commission. The general status of the Civil Service is mainly justified by the fact that the government of the Republic intends to adapt our social system to current requirements in this area. For parliamentarians, this new provision comes at the right time, according to the deputy Blaise Ambeto, Chairman of the Planning Commission. « Pushing back the retirement age is a great option that the Congolese have accepted, and for that, we must say congratulations to the government », said Blaise Ambeto. Continuing his remarks, the deputy of Ngoko, in the Cuvette, Blaise Ambeto thinks that « this provision would quickly show its limits if working conditions are not improved. » At the end of the discussions, the bill was adopted by the deputies.
