Announcement from the Office of the Health Authority that since May 3, 2022, 24 people have been diagnosed with the infectionLegionnaires’ disease, 2 of them died and 4 are currently hospitalized. Both deaths were over 50 years old and had their own risk factors for severe illness. Following instructions from the Department of Health, the city has disinfected four water towers tested for Legionnaires’ disease, which was completed last week.

The largest outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in New York City was in 2015, also in the Bronx, when 12 people died and more than 100 became ill. The last reported death from Legionnaires’ disease was in upper Manhattan in 2018.
