The number of confirmed infections in Cali rises to 16

The Secretary of Health of Cali, Miyerlandi Torres, reported this Tuesday that the number of confirmed infections of monkeypox in the city rose to 16.

In this regard, the Secretary indicated that twelve of the confirmed cases of this virus in the city acquired the infection through sexual intercourse. In addition, he explained that most of the infections in Cali are men under 50 years of age.

Regarding why the number of cases would be growing in the capital Del Valle, Torres assured that this happens because the risk of contagion in the city is increasing because, as he stressed, the virus is already circulating in the environment.

“The virus is already circulating in our community, we do not necessarily have to travel or go abroad to import the virus or that we have to have physical relations or contact with foreigners because the virus is already in our environment and any contact with unknown people can lead to to contagion,” Torres said.
