The United States, the country most affected by the coronavirus, registered on Saturday 66,528 new cases; a new daily record, according to a count by Johns Hopkins University.

The United States reached a total of 3,242,073 infections, the Baltimore-based university said in its latest data. The death toll rose to 134,729, with 760 additional deaths.

In four of the last five days, more than 60,000 new cases were counted per day.

On Saturday, President Donald Trump first donned a face mask in public, giving in to intense pressure to do so to set an example of public health.

He did this while walking through the Walter Reed Military Hospital outside Washington, where he visited wounded war veterans.

Press reports this week indicated that his advisers practically begged the president to give in and wear a face mask in public and be photographed with him, as coronavirus cases skyrocket in some regions of the country.

Among the most affected states is Florida, with 10,360 new infections and 95 additional deaths. Despite this, Disney World reopened two of its four theme parks located in Orlando on Saturday.

The visitors had reserved their tickets in advance, which allowed Disney to control the public quantity in order to respect social distancing rules, which the company established in two meters between each person, both in the attractions and in the stores.

Visitors had to undergo temperature controls and the hand sanitizer was widely available.
