Atalanta and Netherlands midfielder Maarten de Roon declared “Championship” that he was upset by the absence of Alexei Miranchuk and the entire Russian team at the World Championships in Qatar.
“I am sad for Miranchuk and for all the players from Russia. This is a very difficult question, a terrible situation. They were left with no choice,” de Roon said.
Miranchuk has been playing for Atalanta since 2020, and in August passed over in Torino on loan.
The Russian team at the end of February was removed from competitions under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA, including being excluded from the play-offs for reaching the World Cup.
The Netherlands team played two matches in the group stage of the tournament in Qatar – won Senegal (2:0) and played draw with Ecuador (1:1).
The Dutch will play the final match in the group on November 29 with Qatar.
