The Queen regains the titles of her son Prince Andrew, accused of sexual assault and harassment

Once Buckingham Palace announced in a press release that the military titles granted to the Duke of York and his royal patronage had been returned to the Queen, the news made headlines around the world.

In the statement, it was revealed that Prince Andrew was stripped of his roles in sponsoring associations, in a move that came a day after the US judiciary refused to reject a civil lawsuit filed against the second son of Queen Elizabeth II, a woman accusing him of sexually assaulting her when she was a minor.

“With the Queen’s approval and acceptance, the Duke of York’s military titles and royal patronage have been restored to the Queen,” the palace said, adding: “The Duke of York will not continue to hold any public office and will defend himself in this case as a private citizen,” indicating that Queen Elizabeth II will not fund His attorney’s fees and court fees.

A royal source said Andrew, 61, would also stop using the title “His Royal Highness” in an official capacity.
