The Red Cross asks citizens to donate blood in Wengern

Wetter / Ennepe-Ruhr.
The West Service of the DRK needs up to 3500 blood donors so that patients can be cared for. Citizens in Wengern can now donate again.

Without a blood donor, there is nothing in basic medical care, because blood is needed anew every day in order to be able to treat patients in therapy and emergency care. The DRK blood donation service West alone is dependent on around 3,000 to 3,500 blood donors every working day in order to be able to supply hundreds of hospitals with blood preparations.

Role models for society

“With their selfless behavior, blood donors prove that they are important role models for society, but every year the DRK blood donation services lose thousands of blood donors for a variety of reasons,” reports Stephan David Küpper, press spokesman for the West Blood Donation Service. The active tribe of lifesavers is dwindling so quickly that there are already major problems in being able to keep enough blood reserves for all blood groups ready at any time of the year. There are certainly many reasons not to donate blood, but with over 11,000 blood donation appointments by the DRK in West Germany alone and a time commitment of 1 to 1.5 hours, the DRK hopes that a way and the time can be found; around Thursday, November 4th, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Wengern in the Elbschehalle.

Reserve an appointment online

The DRK asks all citizens who would like to donate blood to reserve a personal appointment online in advance. Appointment reservations are part of the Corona protection concept. In order to protect against infection, the blood donation service asks that you refrain from accompanying people, use your own ballpoint pen and wear a medical mask. Blood donors are not tested for corona.

Take away packed lunch

At the moment, instead of the otherwise popular hospitality at the end of the blood donation, there is a small snack as a “Lunch-ToGo”. Anyone over the age of 18 can donate blood; New donors up to their 69th birthday. An official photo ID must always be brought with you to donate blood. Men may donate blood six times and women four times within a twelve-month period. There must be 56 days between two blood donations.

For those who want to find out more about blood donation dates near their home, the DRK Blood Donation Service West has set up a free hotline in the Donor Service Center. All questions are answered on 0800 -11 949 11 Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Further appointments in the area are on Tuesday, November 2nd in Ennepetal from 4 to 8 p.m. in Haus Ennepetal, Gasstr. 10 and Thursday, November 4th from 4 to 7.30 p.m. in the Kath. Gem.-Zentrum Liebfrauen, Hagener Str. 137 in Gevelsberg.
