The referee blows his whistle again for the round of 16 match between Korea and Brazil. According to the list of referees announced by FIFA on the 4th (Korean time), Clément Turpin (France) was assigned as the referee for the match to be held at Stadium 974 in Doha at 4 am on the 6th. During the match against Uruguay on the 24th of last month, Martin Cáceres was warned, and Cho Kyu-seong and Bento, who strongly protested against the extra time decision in the second half, were each given yellow cards.
Referee Turpin is a veteran who has played in French professional football Ligue 1 matches since 2008, and was selected as the best referee by the French Football Association in 2016. Since 2010, he has also worked as an international referee and participated in the European Football Championship (Euro) 2016, the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, the 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup, and the 2018 Russia World Cup. Last year, he served as the referee for the UEFA Europa League final and this year’s UEFA Champions League final. Referees Nicola Dano and Cyril Gringor, who accompanied Turpin in the Korea-Uruguay match, will return as assistant referees for the Brazil match, and Jerome Brisard will serve as the VAR referee. Except for referee Slavko Vincic (Slovenia), who is the third referee, all are from France.
