The silence of the angels: Christmas services without singing

BAt Christmas, form and content cannot be separated. The music and the singing are nothing casual like the Easter Bunny, which has little to do with the redemption of humanity through the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Christmas carols, be it popular classics, motets or oratorios, express an elementary joy about the birth of Christ. They are the millennia-old echo of the song of the angels, in which Christians still join today. But this year the angels are silent. They come to the shepherds in silence and give them hymn notes.
