“The woman has been formally identified. She has been in police custody for a few minutes, the hearing has barely begun, ”this source assured AFP, who clarified that she was of French nationality.
“A suspect is in custody”, for his part confirmed to AFP the public prosecutor of Brest (north-west) Camille Miansoni, specifying that it was a woman. “We will know more by tomorrow morning,” he added.
Tuesday, he told the press that the investigation was progressing “well”. “Things are progressing well and we hope to be able to elucidate this event within a reasonable time,” he assured, referring to the collection of “several testimonies” after the call for witnesses launched. “Obviously, you have to cross-check them, you have to check them,” he added, saying he was “confident”.
On Saturday, during the first stage of the Tour, a spectator who was waving a sign encroaching on the road, in the direction of the television cameras, turning her back to the direction of the race, was struck by the peloton, causing the fall of many runners 45 km from the finish.
An investigation was opened for “involuntary injuries with incapacity not exceeding three months by manifestly willful violation of an obligation of safety or prudence”.
The riders of the Tour de France expressed their dissatisfaction with the multiplication of falls on Tuesday, by dismounting, without getting off their bikes, for one minute, 500 m after the start of the 4th stage between Redon and Fougères.
