the symptom of Covid-19 that intrigues doctors

With the arrival of new variants, the Covid-19 never ceases to surprise us. As positive cases multiply, new symptoms are appearing! It is clear that some are more atypical than others…

It would even seem that the virus has effects on unexpected areas of the body. Everything suggests that the private parts of men are not spared! Indeed, on the long list of effects that a Covid-19 infection can cause, various disorders affecting the penis tend to be included… But then, what are we talking about exactly?

« My penis has shrunk “: a malfunction linked to Covid-19

As our colleagues from Top Health : a 30-year-old man made revelations after being affected by a severe form of Covid-19. In the podcast How To Do It, published by the site Slate, he indeed said that his penis had shrunk…

« In July last year I contracted covid and was very sick. When I was discharged from the hospital, I had problems with erectile dysfunction”, he first explained. ” This problem gradually improved after treatment, but there is one effect that persists: my penis has shrunk by almost 4 centimeters”.

According to the young man’s doctors, this effect could well prove to be permanent. It would also be due to the vascular damage caused by the disease.

Covid-19: a non-isolated case

Everything leads us to believe that this side effect is not as rare as we think. Indeed, several recent studies have already addressed the issue.

A study dating back to last May – and published by The World Journal of Men’s Heath – notably demonstrated that erectile dysfunction could indeed be linked to Covid-19. This phenomenon would result from the alteration of the cavernous arteries of the penis: where the blood is gorged during erection.

In summary: Covid-19 infection causes erectile dysfunction. The latter encourages the reduction of the size of the penis. In any case, this is the explanation given by Charles Welliver, specialist in men’s health and urologist at theAlbany Medical College, during this podcast.
