The tourism sector begins the year with a campaign of offers to travel in 2021

The large airlines and national hotel chains have launched a new sales campaign until mid-January that will allow travel throughout 2021 offering favorable conditions of change or cancellation for travelers in case covid-19 continues to advance.

Despite this rain of discounts, the Business Federation of Territorial Associations of Spanish Travel Agencies (Fetave) it considers the season lost until, at least, summer, and always depending on the progress of the covid-19 and the new British strain.

Despite the fact that mobility restrictions remain in force in much of the world, both Iberia and Air Europa have offered four flights with Europe, Latin America and the United States at any time of the year, excluding the summer months and other holidays.

Iberia offers, valid until next January 21, allow you to fly until December 14 with reduced prices and flexibility to make changes in the event of unforeseen events due to covid-19: to test positive for covid, mobility restrictions are in force in the place of origin or destination or are forced to quarantine or confine themselves in their place of residence.

In addition, offers for flights to Spain or Europe will only be valid for travel until mid-June, while you can fly to Latin America and the United States throughout the year, although it is true that both Easter and part of summer and some long weekends are excluded from the promotion.

For its part, Air Europa offers conditions similar to those of Iberia, but giving travelers even more flexibility when modifying their flight, which must be reserved before January 17 and excludes the summer months (July and August) to fly.

Globalia’s airline, which also includes several destinations in North Africa, allows one free change per ticket without any conditions or financial penalties, something that had already been offered on all flights purchased until January 31.

Discounts at hotels

Some of the large hotel companies have also taken advantage of the beginning of the new year to attract customers with offers that extend throughout the year, allowing you to cancel the reservation for free for any unforeseen event that may arise.

The Meliá hotel chain offers discounts of up to 40% in certain hotels if booked before January 24, while Barceló maintains discounts of up to 35% with free cancellation for reservations made for this summer.

For its part, the NH group allows you to stay in its hotels until March with a 25% discount and RIU offers a 40% on reservations made in the Canary Islands before the fourth of February.

Given the current situation of uncertainty, and with worrying hotel occupancy figures, the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (Cehat) continue to demand direct aid for the sector that allows saving “thousands of companies and hundreds of thousands of jobs.”

After recognizing that 2020 has been the year “more difficult and gloomy” of the sector in recent decades, the Confederation in turn calls for the ERTE to be extended throughout 2021, the creation of tourist vouchers that promote mobility, as well as a “digital health passport” that guarantees safe tourism.

Summer season

They are less optimistic from Fetave, who assures Efe to give for missed the season until, at least, summer, and depending on the progress of the health crisis.

Fetave also emphasizes that, despite the start of the vaccination campaign, the situation will not change much for the sector, since the first vaccinated they are not “target audience” of the agencies, mainly elderly dependents and health personnel who will have to continue working in the coming months.
