The Panamanian Gabriel Torres placeholder image It was one of the great disappointments of the U in the last seasons. The Central American striker signed at the beginning of last year after a great campaign in Huachipato, but in six months he barely scored a goal for a team that, by the way, was on the loose and in that period he changed Frank Kudelka for Alfredo Arias as coach.
However, the club quickly lost patience and decided to send him on loan to Independiente del Valle. In Ecuador he lived a rebirth and, at the point of goals, he was key in the conquest of the Copa Sudamericana 2019.
With the arrival of Joaqun Larrivey in the U, there was no intention that he would return, so although his lease ended in the middle of this year, an agreement was quickly reached to extend it for a few more months, considered the recess due to the global pandemic. However, the new arrangement established the November 30 as the final date for Ecuadorians to use their purchase option.
And although his great performance with Independiente del Valle made foresee that the operation would be settled without problems, the truth is that in the absence of 24 hours until the deadline is met, in Azul Azul they still have no news. That is, this Tuesday Torres will have to start packing his suitcases to return to Chile.
Against the clock
Despite his good moment in Ecuador – he has 13 goals after the football return in September – in the U there is no intention that the Panamanian will return. On the one hand, the scoring records that Larrivey is setting do not make it a necessity and, on the other hand, there are no more places for foreigners on the squad.
In addition to the Argentine striker, there are also his compatriots Walter Montillo and Matas Rodríguez, the Venezuelan Luis del Pino and the Colombian Reinaldo Lenis, one of the three reinforcements for this season. The other two, the trans-Andean Brandon Corts has dual nationality from his Chilean father, and the Uruguayan Cristin Barros is registered as “juvenile”.
And that is why the blue club see Torres as an ideal target for doing business. Considering that his contract expires in 2021, if Independiente del Valle wants to retain one of his figures, he will have to buy his pass.
But the unexpected problem is that the Ecuadorians apparently do not have the money to carry out the operation.
Gabriel Torres’ representative, Cristian Sujoy, assured that the fate of the Panamanian team remains a mystery one day after Independiente del Valle’s deadline for making use of the purchase option expires.
We don’t know yet, the issue has not been resolved. We have one more day and we have to waitsaid the player’s agent to RedGol, aware that his client has no immediate future in the team that Rafael Dudamel now leads. That is why he would also be considering other alternatives in South America, trying to take advantage of the new international prestige that his representative acquired after the South American, but that in the U they only want to take advantage financially.
