The United States surpassed 19 million confirmed coronavirus cases on Sunday since the pandemic began, according to information compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
The country passed that mark just six days after it hit 18 million. The number of confirmed cases in the nation has doubled in less than two months.
Deaths from COVID-19 in the United States have also been on the rise, now numbering more than 332,000, which is equivalent to more than one death for every 1,000 Americans. As of Saturday, the country had approximately 331 million residents, according to the Census Bureau.
About 4% of the world’s population lives in the United States, but it has recorded about 24% of all its coronavirus cases and 19% of deaths from COVID-19. However, health experts believe that many cases have not been reported, both at home and abroad.
