The very domineering Ryzen 5900HX on PassMark

It is ahead of the best Core by 11.8% in single-core, 44.8% in multicore.

At CES 2021, AMD unveiled its line of processors Ryzen 5000 mobiles, code name Cezanne. Among them is a Ryzen 9 5900HX. This chip with 8 cores / 16 threads has imposed itself on PassMark, both multi-core and single-core.

We are not really surprised, since like their counterparts Ryzen 5000 desktop, these processors inherit the Zen 3 CPU architecture. A few days before their release, chips for stationary PCs had also made a strong impression on PassMark, through Ryzen 5 5600X and Ryzen 9 5950X ; Obviously, in their segment, the Ryzen 5000 mobiles offer performance of the same ilk.

While waiting for the Ryzen 9 5980HX …

The Ryzen 9 5900HX scores 24,039 points in multi-core, 3,365 points in single-core. Remember that this chip has a base frequency of 3.3 GHz and a Boost frequency of 4.6 GHz. This is not the standard bearer of the Ryzen 5000 mobiles, a title that goes to the Ryzen 9 5980HX. The site VideoCardz offers the table below to compare the performance of the different processors on the market.

Intel Core i9-9980HK 2 693 80% 15 170 63%

The 5900HX is 23.6% faster than its ancestor, the Ryzen 9 4900H, in single-core, 26.2% higher in multicore. On the Intel chip side, the best single-core, the Core i7-1185G7, is 11.8% behind. In multicore, the Tiger Lake range does not yet include an 8-core model, the best representative is the Core i9-10980HK (Comet Lake-H). However, despite its 8 cores, Intel’s processor does not seem to box in the same category: the AMD chip scores 44.8% higher on PassMark.
