In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, justice has not yet finished with Brenda Okale, the widow of the former head of military intelligence, Delphin Kahimbi, and her mother, acquitted to everyone’s surprise on Monday by the tribunal de grande instance of Kinshasa-Gombe.
The two women were accused of murder of General Delphin Kahimbi dated February 28, 2020, of which the court acquitted them. But, they were officially arrested for having violated the conditions of detention under house arrest on May 30, a week before the judgment in their favor.
With RFI, Brenda Okale who spent her first night in detention with her mother denounces a set-up by the prosecution and a cabal.
“She is accused of having tried to escape with the children on May 30 because she had asked permission to go to church. The justice kindly reminded her that no, she could not until the date of the verdict and until we, we will have the authorization to allow you to evacuate freely. It’s just that », explains his lawyer Bijoux Tshivuadi Mulumba.
« She is now in police custody at the Kinshasa-Gombe Grande Instance prosecutor’s office. I will assist him. She will be heard by the prosecutor. She was acquitted of course. What we had as a test to go through, it is infinitely painful and unbearable, thanks be to God, we have lived it. What has just happened is just a cherry that will be quickly consumed and we will have a pleasant result. The so-called attempt happened on May 30. 8 days later she was acquitted. We will pass this test with bravery and brio. It’s painful, it hurts, but she’s hardened ”, added Master Tshivuadi Mulumba at the microphone of RFI who remains convinced that this case will be quickly settled by the Congolese justice.
