The year of the fiftieth… The UAE’s journey to the “model country”

The past twenty years have been full of Emirati achievements in various fields, as part of efforts that the country has promoted to reach a global model.

In the following report, “Al Ain News” lists the most prominent achievements of the UAE since the beginning of the current millennium until the end of this year, amid global leadership in vital sectors.

In 2000, construction works were launched in Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange was established, the Dubai Financial Market was established, and the Federal Law for the Protection and Development of the Environment was announced.

In 2001, the Petroleum Institute was established, the successful launch of the Thuraya 1 satellite, the first satellite made by Boeing, the establishment of the Emirates Post Corporation, and the establishment of the Emirates Wildlife Society.

In 2003, Abu Dhabi University was established, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority was established, the Etihad Airways company was established, the Dubai Relief City was launched, and the Dubai International Financial Center was established.

The beginning of the Expo dream

During 2013, the United Arab Emirates won the bid to host the Expo 2020 Dubai, after competing with a group of city files, most notably Sao Paulo, Brazil.

In 2014, the UAE government launched the UAE National Agenda for the next seven years, which constituted a title for a new phase of comprehensive development renaissance that keeps pace with the changes of the new millennium, leading to the UAE Vision 2021.

In 2017, the UAE launched its centenary 2071, and it topped many indicators of global competitiveness. It also opened the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum, and the UAE announced seven initiatives that achieve the Arab youth strategy.

In 2018, the Council of Ministers approved a decision to grant citizens of countries suffering from wars and disasters a one-year residence in the country. The state also announced the names of the first Arab astronauts, Hazza Al Mansouri and Sultan Al Neyadi. The Emirates Space Agency signed an agreement with the US space agency, NASA. In 2020, the UAE entered history through an unprecedented space achievement and ambition that transcends the borders of Earth, taking it to the red planet when it launched the “Probe of Hope” on the first Arab mission to Mars.

Only two weeks after the launch of the Hope Probe, the UAE announced a new exceptional achievement thanks to the vision of the wise leadership and the determination and will of young people who do not know the impossible, which is the successful completion of the start-up process of the reactor of the first station in the “Barakah” peaceful nuclear power plants project.
