A second occupant, a 13-year-old boy, became trapped in the vehicle after the accident. He was freed by the emergency services. Injured, he was taken to hospital. An investigation into the exact cause of the accident has been opened.
A neighborhood in shock
The tragedy has deeply affected the inhabitants of the district. “Never has such a serious accident happened here”, reacted with emotion a local resident, questioned by our colleagues from the Nieuwsblad.
Parents who had already lost a child in a road accident also. “For a parent, a phone call like that is the worst nightmare,” testified Tommy Seigers. Her son Jasper was killed in a car accident nine and a half months ago.
“Every report of a fatal road accident reminds me that I’m not the only one and that’s why it’s often beneficial to talk to other people who suffer from the same ailment,” advises Tommy.
