Theater director Josep Anton Codina dies at the age of 89

The theater director Josep Anton Codina died this Friday in Barcelona at the age of 89 years. This year, 50 years ago, this man from Barcelona came to the city of Tarragona to direct the Tarragona Summer Festivals at the Camp de Mart. He was one of the founders and director of the Municipal School of Dramatic Art Josep Yxart and many actors from Tarragona received his influence.

He also directed numerous shows such as The Comedy of Santa Barbara, by Vicent Garcia (1982) and the opera Dido and Ennees, by Purcell (1983). Tarragona City Council has mourned his death this Saturday with a note of condolence. Three years ago, the Government recognized the work done by awarding it the National Culture Prize.
