their account was debited… from 91,373 euros, “the usual bill is 4,000 to 5,000 euros”

A couple of farmers from Landifay-et-Bertaignemont, in Thiérache, were debited 91,373 euros from their company’s account, report our colleagues from the new Aisne.

When Denise (assumed name) looks at the origin of the debit, she quickly realizes that it originally came from EDF. “On Monday, I was doing my accounts, and when I turned on the computer, I immediately saw that something was wrong: the account was heavily in the red”, smiles the operator in hindsight. “We may read that it was EDF who debited the account, we wonder if it is not a scam. »

Right away, they try to reach an EDF adviser to try to understand the problem. “The usual bill is 4,000 euros to 5,000 euros. We have a medium-sized potato farm for the department. We mainly use fridges, the cost comes in particular from that, ”explains the couple.

At the end of the telephone, the EDF adviser sends them back to their bank, which does not open until the next day. “We didn’t sleep, we wondered how we were going to do it. »

As soon as their bank opens on Tuesday, they perform a chargeback. At the same time, after 48 hours, they receive an email allowing them to understand the error, which relieves the couple a little: “There is indeed a problem with the indexes recorded”, relates the missive.

“It is [le conseiller EDF] fully understand that this can be a big problem for you. For my part, I have just contacted my superior so that he takes care of it quickly. If necessary, contact your bank to ask them to cancel this operation, we will obviously cover any costs in the form of a goodwill gesture. »

“I find it crazy that there is no safeguard, and that nobody sees that there is an anomaly”, concludes the victim. In the end, the money is refunded. Denise and Michel are still waiting for the amount of the costs that they will be able to claim. Only then can they focus on the holidays.
