The war in Ukraine had a huge impact on the sports community. Most international federations excluded players from Russia and Belarus from the competition. This wide group includes, among others, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), which prevented competitors from both countries from finishing the previous season.

The world of jumping is still without competitors from Russia and Belarus

It turns out that the ban on starting will not be lifted soon. – During Wednesday’s meeting, the FIS Council decided that the ban on starting in the competition for athletes from Russia and Belarus remains in force and will be in force until further notice.

The last decision to exclude Russian and Belarusian skiers and jumpers was taken in mid-October last year, a few weeks before the start of the season.

The latest findings do not fully coincide with what Sandro Pertile, director of the Ski Jumping World Cup, said recently. The Italian did not directly support the extension of the exclusion of players from Russia and Belarus, and made the decision dependent on the current situation in Ukraine. – It all depends on how the war in Ukraine goes. We all hope that it will end as soon as possible and we will return to a world based on peace – he said in an interview with WP SportoweFakty.

Russian jumping in recent years has fared very pale compared to the competition. The only competitor who could compete with the best was Yevgeny Klimov. The 29-year-old can even boast of winning the World Cup competition, which he won in Wisła at the inauguration of the 2018/19 season.
