“They must hear what war does” –

“Russia brought war to our territory and should feel the effects of what it has done,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, referring, without naming it, to Ukraine’s three-day cross-border attack on Russia’s Kursk region. “The Ukrainians know how to achieve their goals. And we did not choose to achieve our goals in war,” Zelensky added. Russia says at least 1,000 Ukrainian troops, supported by tanks and armored vehicles, entered its territory on Tuesday morning, in what appears to be one of the largest assaults on Russian soil since the start of the war. Russian President Vladimir Putin had earlier accused Ukraine of “serious provocation.” Ukrainian officials have remained largely silent about the offensive. The exact situation on the ground is difficult to determine, with few specific details released by either side.

Panic among Russian leaders over Ukrainian offensive in Kursk. What is behind the assault

Fighting is underway in Sudzha, Kursk region, where a transit station for the gas pipeline that transports half of Russia’s gas exported to Europe is located. According to a senior Gazprom official, quoted by Tass, the clashes have already caused a sharp increase in prices. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military confirmed that it carried out a “successful” attack on a military airfield in the Russian region of Lipetsk and on anti-aircraft equipment in the Ukrainian-occupied region of Donetsk during the night. “During the attack (on Lipetsk), warehouses were hit with guided air bombs and several facilities in the vicinity of the airfield,” the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported on the Telegram channel.
