They restore the base of Dalí’s “Angel’s Cross” following a possible bacterial attack that degraded it

The Salvador Dalí Foundation has been working for six months on the restoration of the base of ‘The angel’s cross‘, a jewel that is on display at the Salvador Dalí Theater-Museum in Figueres. It is a piece that has a part of marcasite at the base and with moisture oxidizes and generates sulfates, which has led to the degradation of this material. Now, they are studying whether the degradation has been caused by a bacteria. So far, a sample of the sulfur that was in some laboratories in Korea has been sent to analyze the DNA sequencing to see if there were any bacteria. Jewelers, chemists and mineralogists have been working on this restoration process and are now looking at how to reduce the humidity in the display case so that it is not damaged again.
