The lawyer for François Gibault, one of Céline’s two heirs, filed a complaint for concealment of theft on February 5, 2021 against the former journalist of Release which held unreleased material from the writer. He reconsiders the conditions under which he discovered the existence of these manuscripts.
LE FIGARO. – In order to help us better understand the stakes of this “affair”, could you give a chronological reminder?
Jérémie ASSOUS. – It all started on June 12, 2020, when Emmanuel Pierrat, lawyer, notably from Imec (Memorial Institute of Contemporary Publishing, Editor’s note), sends an email to our colleague François Gibault, beneficiary of Lucette Destouches, widow of Louis-Ferdinand Céline and his only heiress. He informs him that one of his clients has in his possession thousands of unpublished pages of the novelist.
